Turning off iCloud Photo library on iPhone

If I have used my iPhone (or iPad) to take photos and have been using iCloud Photo Library to back them up what happens to the photos ON MY IPHONE or IPAD (those were the devices used to actually take the photo) when I turn OFF iCloud Photo Library syncing in Settings? Specifically each setting a) the Photos | ICloud | iCloud Photos turning it OFF from on and also b)Settings | iCloud | Apps using iCloud | Photos OFF from on?

I need to know which method will prevent my photos from being deleted from the device where I took the photo. Please be specific as this is quite confusing, stressful and worrisome.

I think if you turn it off then it will ask you if you want to keep the ones on there, but read the above links too.

What I did was change the Apple ID I used in ICPL. I don't know about the original iCloud library and if the photos are still there (the person was deceased).

You can turn off iCloud Photos on a single device when you follow these steps:

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos, then turn off iCloud Photos.*
On your Mac, go to System Preferences > iCloud. Next to Photos, click Options, then deselect iCloud Photos.*
On your Apple TV 4K or Apple TV (4th generation), go to Settings > Accounts > iCloud. Under Photos, press Select to turn off iCloud Photos.*

If you have Optimize Storage turned on, you might not have all of

your original photos and videos on your device. To download the original

photos and videos on your iOS device, go to Settings > [your name]

> iCloud > Photos and select Download and Keep Originals. On your

Mac, open Photos, choose Photos > Preferences, then select Download

Originals to this Mac. Then you can turn off iCloud Photos. You can also

select the photos and videos that you want to download from iCloud.com.

Before you turn off iCloud Photos, you might want to make a copy of your photos and videos.

I did this recently on a phone I was given my memory is it offered to let me keep the photos that were still on it before I changed the ICPL to my Apple ID. I still have one photo in my library that belonged to the previous user.

So, to be clear. You are saying that if you have an iPhone that you used to take photos with ICPL turn ON on that device, then you disable the setting in iCLOUD, you were asked if you want to keep or delete the photos ON THE DEVICE and these photos will be remvoved permanently from iCloud Library?

Thank you. still now sure what will happen but if you read the last sentence in the above it implies you should make a copy of your photos or videos before you turn off iCloud photos, which implies to me they will no longer be there.

I appreciate your input and efforts but this is still a mystery:)

Thank you for your prompt reply. I have read all the Apple support on this topic and nothing addresses what happens to the photos on your device when you turn off the feature. Still confused.
