iMac display distorted

I upgraded my system software to V 10.13.6 a couple of weeks ago. Today my display is distorted and stretched very horizontally. I attached an image. I've tried restarting in safe mode, unplugging everything and plugging it back in, disconnecting my second monitor and changing the display setting in my preferences. If I take a screen grab of the display and someone else opens the image on their machine, it looks normal and not stretched. I ran an EtreCheck report, but can't paste it in here because it uses too many characters. Any suggestions?

In order to post your Etrecheck report you'll need to click on the icon (seen highlighted in my screenshot) and paste it there. The Etrecheck report may provide some clues that will others to provide additional suggestions.

There are multiple key combinations for getting into the macOS Recovery mode. Some use a special recovery partition on your hard drive, while others boot from the internet. It sounds like you received an error when trying to boot into macOS Recovery mode which may be a clue, I just don't know what it would mean. Can you try all three methods of getting into macOS Recovery and see if any of them are successful, and whether any of them resolve (even temporarily) the display issue?

I suggest resetting your NVRAM since it contains some of the display settings. Restoring to defaults may help.

Since the issue occurred after an OS upgrade I also suggest booting into macOS Recovery mode to see if the display still appears distorted. If not, then it may indicate an OS issue that warrants a reinstallation from macOS Recovery. Make sure you have a backup of your data.
