Hi Mylildj,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
This doesn't sound right. Unless your table/desk is significantly crooked, I would setup a Genius Bar appointment for further inspection: Get Support.

The only fixable cause is something in the house of workplace vibrating. If stopping the vibrating device or placing a vibration-resisitant pad under the computer's "foot" do not stop the movement, then take Jack's advice.
There was a chronic issue with some years ago with only the 27" iMac displays where a plastic part in the spring assembly that held the monitor in position would break causing the monitor to suddenly drop all the way forward. This does not sound like your issue as your profile mention only a 21" iMac, so yes, contacting Apple Customer Support is the best course of action.
I think it has to do with the weight of the monitor vs. the super thin everything and it does not appear to support it too well.
Early 2012 to about 2015 iMacs had a problem with their display if your iMac fits that date range that is the problem. You need to take it in for service!!!!
I am betting on the hinge of the display where it is attached to the foot/stand. As rkaufmann said, there was quite a problem some years ago and it might have re-emerged. Contact Apple support.
There is no vibration. It’s sits on a desk on a carpeted floor and drifts down over a couple of hrs. Also it is a 2020 model
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I will contact Apple support. It doesn’t appear to be a diy fix
