Changing permissions to folders within a folder problem

I have a folder which contains around 50 sub folders.

Is there a way of being able to change the permissions of a number of folders within a folder?

I can change the permissions of the main folder and then select "apply to enclosed items" but (in my case) it does not change the permissions of the folders within. I then have to laboriously click on each folder and change the permissions individually. Tedious.

Is this possible?

Select all the folders you need to change. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on your selection then depress the OPTION key and select the Show Inspector from the context menu. You can then make the needed permissions change and extend them to the contents of all the folders.

Now, before you make changes via Get Info you must first click on the little lock icon at the bottom right and enter your Admin password when requested. Changes made now will be saved.

Many thanks Kappy for this good advice.

I thought this was working for me after doing what you suggested. However most of the files within the folders still have the incorrect permissions. I'm getting a "you have mixed access" message.

Also, I'm able to change the permissions of the folders themselves, but the contents of those are still wrongly "permission-ed"

Hi Kappy,

Thanks for your patience on this matter.

The folders and files in are on a backup HD but under an old user named directory I've used in the past, so all the permissions under that user have incorrect permissions for my current user.

I'm also getting a "you have custom access" as well as the "you have mixed access"

I'll try your latest suggestion, but it'll be tomorrow now.

But very many thanks for this!!
