Can't delete High Sierra installer from trash

Hi all.


I can't delete High Sierra installer from trash- it keeps telling me it's in use even though my MacBook Pro is running the latest version of Mojave. I tried the "Delete immediately" option and got this message:


Help, please - it's eating up 5GB on my hard drive.

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.14

If you are absolutely certain that your system no longer needs that file, can you boot into your MacBook Pro from another bootable volume or drive such as from Time Machine, a USB stick or another external hard drive? My thinking is that if the current volume is no longer the active volume, you may be able to delete that file. I have used this method a number of times for stubborn files and folders.
