VoiceOver turning itself on after I start my Macbook Pro (MacOS 10.14 Mojave). Why?

I have a problem that often (but not always) happens with the Macs at work: I turn Voice over off (by either pressing Command + F5 or clicking the little grey voiceover dialog box). Then when I turn on the machine later, Voice over is on!.

Any idea why this may be happening? I noticed that in Activity Monitor, a process turns on called "com.apple.speech.speechsynthesisd".

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding that VoiceOver is automatically enabled when turning on your multiple Mac computers. I can see how this could be a bit concerning. I'm happy to help.


I recommend testing the issue while starting in safe mode. Starting in safe mode allows your Mac to run certain checks, remove caches, and prevent login items from automatically launching.
