Show path bar greyed out
Finder won't let me see the file path - and 'Show path bar' is greyed-out even when I have an active finder window (see pic). How can I activate 'show path bar'?

How cannot activate or deactivate the path bar when you have a search window.
Just open a normal window (command-N), and activate the path bar.
It will also appear in subsequent search windows (but apparently this does not affect windows that are already open).
I don't know if this is a bug or intended behavior.
