Cursor and keys are locked on my Macbook
Open up my computer this morning and the cursor is not active (locked). Additionall, none of the keys or arrow buttons work. Any ideas of what should be the next steps to resolve?

You can try Try resetting the SMC https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
This all happens preboot.
you can try Boot into Recovery (Command R) and from the dropdown menu: Utilities> Disk Utility> run the First Aid on your Macintosh HD. If errors are found and repaired, run again until no errors reported.

Other options would be try using an external keyboard to test.
If no success take it in—
In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test and ask specifically for the VST (Video Systems Test)
