What happens if you press the esc key, the top left most key on the keyboard?

If you move the mouse pointer to the top edge of the screen, does the toolbar appear?

this suggestion (hit esc) for the first site I tried it worked for reducing size and therefore I was able to find red dot to close--THANK YOU--but when I tried a couple of other sites, Amazon, for example, the screen image seems scrunched up and atop one another, images can be made larger/clearer with the A in Zoom. Then a few minute later went back and all seems OK. Have no idea why this all started but think it is fine now.
