No microphone in Control Center-why?

On my iPhone 6 (iOS 12.1.4) I can’t record audio during screen recording because there’s no microphone icon in my Control Center. I suspect that something i did, inadvertently took it away, but I can’t seem to find any related setting to get the microphone icon back. Suggestions, please?
