"Update ready to install" pops up every few seconds

I use WhatsApp on my Macbook Pro (10.13.6), which belongs to employer. As such, I do not have an administrator's account. WhatsApp tries to update itself fairly regularly, but because I don't have an admin account, I have to go to IT every time. The problem is that if I don't do the update right away (if I click "cancel" in the pop-up rather than entering the admin user name and pw), the update reminder pops up about every 30 seconds, blocking whatever window I'm working in. Is there a way to change settings to turn the update pop-up off, or to at least not show up every few seconds?

Thank you!

The pop-up says "An update is ready to install. WhatsApp is trying to add a new helper tool. Enter an administrator's name and password to allow this."
