Siri calendar appointment creation no longer fully hands free

I used to be able to make calendar appointments completely hands free until a few months ago.

Both my iPhone and iP are fully updated to iOS 12.1.4 and both have the same issue. Not sure if this started in 12.1.4 or in 12.1.3.

Now, the appointment creation process will not complete until I manually tap on the screen to activate the microphone at the last prompt so I can give the final confirmation. The beep letting you know Siri is ready and listening for the next command never comes otherwise.

If I don't tap on the screen, it will forever sit at the prompt showing "Let me know if you want to make any changes."

You cannot respond by voice to confirm the appointment because Siri isn't listening until you tap the screen.

How can this be fixed to work the way it used to up until last year where you could complete the appointment creation without having to touch the screen to activate the final confirmation?

No, I am not using any third party calendar apps.

Regardless of whether the appoint is made or not, the screen is taken over and held at this prompt shown in the screenshot until I tap the icon at the bottom of the screen and say "No" I don't want to make any changes.

Up until a few months ago, I could reply to the final prompt without having to tap on the screen.

What if I did what to correct something? I used to be able to just reply and make the correction. Now. I would need to tap the screen to make the correction. So, just ignoring it, is not really a fix.

Usually when Siri is asking you for voice input to confirm something, it automatically activates the mic so you can make the reply without tapping on the screen again. This is the only prompt, where I'm having this issue.

I waited for an update or two since the issue first started to see if updates would fix it, but so far, the updates have not.

This is a new issue. I had been making appointments with Siri by voice for a couple of years without this issue until a few months ago.

I created an appointment on my iPhone XR (iOS 12.1.4) and left it at that. I simply said "Hey, Siri, create a new appointment today at 11 o'clock". Siri responded with the same thing that is seen your screenshot. I then went to my MacBook Pro and noticed that the new appointment was there in the calendar. Later, I tapped my iPhone screen and it looks like the normal blank iPhone screen when it is locked. Everything on the iPhone was done hands-free.

Are you using a third-party calendar app? That is the only thing I can think of.
