In Safari, my default search engine, Google, defaults to Bing, and when I attempt to quit Safari by clicking on "Quit" or "Force Quit", it will shut down, but it will restart automatically. I found a hidden file folder in Library/Application Support titled ".dir", and that seems to be the problem, but dragging that folder and its contents to trash and emptying the trash is futile. The folder simply reappears in /Application Support.

I tried a safe restart, but the computer never restarts, even though the status bar shows it is complete.

Is there a way to delete this .dir folder and its contents?
