How do you change volume control on Macbook Pro touch bar?

I am looking into the various MacBooks. This forum isn't about what's good and bad, so I won't go there with this.

I am wondering about the Touch Bar. I know what it can do, but..... if I am playing music on my MBA 2015 and I want to turn it down I tap the 'down' button in the function keys - no matter what App I am using.

From what I can tell, you can only turn music down on the Pro if the app running the music is 'frontal screen' so that it enables the volume icons on the Touch Bar.

Is this correct, or am I wrong about that?

I am considering it, but the £700+ additional for it (and a bit of extra storage) is highly excessive, if it's not going to be that useful for me. That money bought my iPhone7! lol.

Not quite. If you go to System Preferences -> Keyboard and select "Show Control Strip" when using the option "App Controls" or "Quick Actions" In the dropdown next to Touch Bar Shows you will get a section to the right side of your touch bar that has slider controls for volume among a few others. You can hit the arrow to the left of that section to expand it to the full control panel simulating the physical function keys.
