HomePod stream from iTunes

I just tried to connect iTunes on my iMac to my HomePod. Got a message saying to "Sign In to Apple Music to play to my HomePod."

I cancelled my Apple Music subscription, a couple of months ago. I use the HomePod to stream audio from my AppleTV, all the time. I have streamed music from my iPhone to the HomePod, in the past, and can use it for phone conversation. Have I wrongly assumed that I can stream my music from my iTunes playlist over my home network. Am I doing something wrong?

If I can't stream from iTunes to the HomePod without paying Apple 9.99 per month to do it, then I would dissuade anyone from buying a HomePod.

you can use the homepod as airplay speaker from a computer with iTunes installed

and as you mention apple music but also apple music match

you can request they alter their features using their feedback channel

I choose the Homepods from the list of Airplay options while using iTunes on my Mac.

This is working for me, now. Yesterday iTunes told me to sign in to Apple Music, every time I selected the HomePod from the Air Play options.

It's working now. Yesterday, I got a message to sign in to Apple Music, every time I tried to connect iTunes via Air Play.

Don't know what happened, but it's fine now.
