when i want to buy a photo book on iphoto, it tells me that I need to upgrade photos. how do I go about this

I am trying to buy a photo book that I have just made and when I try to purchase it, it tells me that I need to upgrade photos. When I check for updates, the computer tells me there are no updates available. Please could you let me know how I go about this? I have the OS X El Capitan version... Computer dates from early 2008...

At the end of Sept. 2018, Apple stopped providing iPhoto Photo book services. These are now presented as Photos Extensions, and require macOS High Sierra or later to install from the Mac App Store.
