Bluetooth connection issues between iPhone and Windows 10 - Creators Update
A few months ago I noticed my Dynamic Lock had stopped working. I hadn't had much time to dig into the issue until the past few days. The problem I discovered was the two devices would no longer connect via Bluetooth (iPhone XS MAX and Dell Latitude 7480).
I tried a few times to connect, then headed to Google for some answers. I found post after post with all kinds of "solutions". Things like restarting services, editing registry settings (Not recommend unless experienced, either way do a registry backup first ) updating drivers, BIOS settings.
I tried some of the things suggested in various forums. Although many were decent suggestions, none had worked in my situation. So, what's the last resort when all else fails? A backup and restore of devices. I don't know too many people that enjoy this, but sometimes it's a means to an end and I was determined and focused for a solution.
There I am with a newly reloaded laptop and iPhone devices ready to pair up again via Bluetooth, just to discover IT. JUST. AIN'T. HAPPENING. At this point I'm getting really frustrated because there doesn't seem to be a fix anywhere online.
I ended up doing another fresh install of Windows 10. I monitored the whole process step by step. It was a daunting task but this time I discovered that my iPhone did actually connect to Windows 10. That is until the Creators Update installed, then it was all over. At least now I knew the culprit to all this non-sense.
It seems that each time both prior to the reload and the newly refreshed creators updated laptop that the devices would indeed pair, but not stay connected. If fact, the iPhone went as far as saying the device was not supported and forced a "forget device".
***THE FIX***
I decided to take one last try and if this didn't work I'd just forget it.
- Check to make sure Bluetooth is turned on for your iPhone and also your Windows device
- Go to <Control Panel> (not the new Windows settings section)
- Open <Devices and Printers>
- Select <Add a Device> at the top and a new window will open
- You should see the name of your iPhone in the list, select it, the pair.
- Accept the PIN code message on each device
- You should be connected now!
While I can't guarantee this will resolve similar issues others are experiencing, hopefully it's helpful to someone out there. Good luck!
