Can't Download Mojave - Billing Info

I'm trying to update to Mojave from 10.8.5 on my Macbook Pro 2012 .

When I try to download it, it says that I have to confirm my billing information. When I click the Billing info button, it says I have to update my OS in order to update my billing information.

So, I logged into my Apple ID account in a browser and updated my billing information from there, but I still get the same result. It still wants me to confirm my billing info and says I can't do it unless I update first.

FWIW, PayPal is not listed as a Payment method…

You can typically use these methods with your Apple ID:

So, if I understand you correctly, I need to update first to an earlier version.

I looked for El Capitan and found this:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT206886

The minimum requirements are:

MacBook Pro introduced in mid 2007 or later with  OS X Snow Leopard or later.

So I figure I'm good.

There's a link to the app store:

https://itunes.apple.com/app/os-x-el-capitan/id1147835434?ls=1&mt=12

When I open it, I get the page for El Capitan but when I try install, it says:

This version of OS X 10.11 cannot be installed on this computer

So, then I look for Sierra or High Sierra:

Sierra:

https://support.apple.com/en-il/HT208202

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/macos-sierra/id1127487414?ls=1&mt=12

High Sierra:

https://support.apple.com/en-il/HT208969

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/macos-high-sierra/id1246284741?ls=1&mt=12

When I try to install either of them, I get the same issue as with Mojave:

Verification required: Click billing info etc...

And when I click Billing Info:

Software Update Required.

Dialabrain is right. There may still be something wrong with your billing info, something that you missed.

If not, then given the nature of the on-screen messages you have been receiving, I would say to try starting your upgrade path from Mavericks -- 10.9 -- which comes right after Mountain Lion.

If even that fails to work, then you probably just need to contact Apple Support directly and explain your issue to them, and hope that they can explain to you what is going on, and help you to fix it.

I think you may be missing what it is actually trying to tell you.

In order to upgrade to Mojave, you need to have one of the following machines at the minimum. I think you may meet this first requirement, IF your MacBook Pro is a Mid 2012 model:

MacBook (Early 2015 or newer)

MacBook Air (Mid 2012 or newer)

MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 or newer)

Mac mini (Late 2012 or newer)

iMac (Late 2012 or newer)

iMac Pro (2017)

Mac Pro (Late 2013; Mid 2010 and Mid 2012 models with recommended Metal-capable graphics cards)

But that is not all. In additional to the above hardware requirements, there are also software requirements; that being that you need to upgrade your OS step by step from your current OS, all the way up to the last release of High Sierra, before you will be able to install Mojave successfully, at least so I have seen a few people state.

Following is a short list of previous versions of macOS, so that you can determine what upgrade path you need to follow:

10.7 - Lion

10.8 - Mountain Lion

10.9 - Mavericks

10.10 - Yosemite

10.11 - El Capitan

10.12 - Sierra

10.13 - High Sierra

10.14 - Mojave

I'm not absolutely certain, but I think you may possibly be able to skip a few versions after Mountain Lion, and maybe start at El Capitan or Sierra. But then you have to follow the path up from there, or you won't be able to install Mojave. It is a bit confusing, because different Apple pages -- and other websites -- seem to say different things about this issue; but I am certain that you cannot upgrade directly from Mountain Lion to Mojave.

You can learn more at the following URLs:

https://support.apple.com/kb/SP777?locale=en_US

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201475

I hope the above is helpful to you, and that it resolves your issue. Please let me know. Thanks!

Well, that's a bummer. Either I am doing something wrong, or else Apple has now changed the App Store so much, that it now restricts us from seeing any older purchases which we may have hidden. As you may already know, in the old design of the App Store, you could see ALL of your purchases, and then choose to hide or show them, according to your need. Now I can't even find a way to do that.

The reason why I was trying to do that, is because before, as long as an app was in your list of purchases, you could download it, including older versions of macOS going pretty far back.

So I wanted to see if I could find Mavericks or Yosemite in my list of purchases, but as I said, no dice. I can't find a way to unhide what I hid before.
