Invert Colour stuck

I'm running OS X 10.14.3 on mid 2014 13'' MacBook Pro Retina. I enabled display color inversion through Accessibility Preferences to try it out. A few days later I decided to revert the display colors, and deselected "Invert Display Colors" in Accessibility preferences to do so. The colors did not revert despite the option being toggled-off. I restarted the computer; the colors are still inverted even though the "Invert Display Colors" option in Accessibility Preferences is unselected. I reset all display settings to default and restarted the computer; the colors are still inverted.

I found the solution if anyone is following, Settings General then at the top is a new (I believe) option for Appearance showing Light or Dark options, when I switched to Light my problem was solved. I can't explain the logic, however it seems somehow related to my invert colours setting prior to the latest upgrade and then this new Appearance option.

I deleted the 2 plist files and shut down, still have same issue when I restart. I took screen shots showing each step where I toggled “invert colour” on and off to show the result. Although to my surprise when I switch the toggle off, after taking my final screen shot to show the unusable colour scheme I get, the actual saved screen shot files revert in colour, making it useless in showing here to you. Is it weird that a screen shot file is changed after it is created? Anyway, in order to show the effect of turning the invert colour toggle back on, I had to take a pic of the screen, see last image below. I also note when the toggle is on the google screen goes black. Could it be somehow related to night shift, as I recall touching that when I first (unwisely) decided to save my eyes and try inverted colours.
