Images inserted in imovie project are not reproduced (they appear in black) and PIP does not work.

Hello, I have TWO problems editing videos on imovie:

1) When I insert any image in the project, it doesn't reproduce (it appears in black). However, with video clips are goiing very well.

2) The PIP (picture in picture) function doesn't work either. I can place one clip on top of another, but it doesn't play. Neither when the inserted clip is a video nor when it is an image.

I have reviewed many forums and have not found any solution or explanation.

I have a MacBookPro 15'' and OSX 10.11.6. imovie version is 9.0.9

I hope someone can help me. Thank you very much.

Hi,

iMovie 9.0.9 is not fully compatible with operating systems from El Capitan and later. Black images are one of the reported problems, as well as other issues such as you are observing. Unfortunately there is no cure, as iMovie 9 will become increasingly less functional with each upgrade of the operating system. With Mojave it doesn't even open at all.

iMovie 9 will work on older operating systems, if by chance you have an older computer that is running one.

Try updating to iMovie 10.1.6, the latest iMovie version that El Capitan will run. You might already have it on your computer. From within iMovie 10 you can update your iMovie 9 projects and events and edit them in iMovie 10. You also can keep and use iMovie 9 simultaneously with iMovie 10 if you want.

iMovie 10 has a very different user interface and file structure than iMovie 9, so there will be a bit of a learning curve.
