Siri cannot find homekit accessory on iphone

I have a Wemo smart plug named "Bed Light." When I ask Siri to control this light on my iPhone, I get the response "Sorry I wasn't able to find anything like that this time." In contrast, Siri on my Apple Watch 4 and my iPad are able to control the light, as is the HomeKit app on my iPhone. I have tried rebooting the iPhone to no avail.

This used to work on my iPhone, and it is not clear when it stopped working.

Any ideas?

iPhone XS, iOS 12

Thanks Melissa. This worked! I’m so glad I didn’t delete and recreate my Homekit Home as suggested by an Apple Support Rep. That would have been a nightmare to set up again because I have almost 30 accessories.

I just have one other observation of note to share that I discovered in solving my issue. You only have to rename one device and then change the name back. Once I did that, all of my other Homekit accessories worked via “Hey Siri” again. Hope this helps more people out there with this same issue.

One last thing. I also observed that “Hey Siri” worked on other iPads and iPhones in our home with the Homekit accessories. It was only my iPhone that didn’t work.

This did not work, and the recent iOS update broke the same thing on my Apple Watch. :-(

The solution to the problem was to open “Home” on my iPhone, rename the light (e.g., to "table lamp"), and verify that the new name worked with Siri on both my iPhone and Apple Watch. I could then change the switch back to its original name, and everything was copacetic on all devices.

Hello Melissa_H,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that you're unable to control your Wemo Smart Plug using Siri on your iPhone. You've come to the right place for help.

To help further isolate potential causes of this behavior, I would like to have you try the following:

  1. Confirm that your iPhone has been updated to the latest iOS: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
  2. If you have another Wi-Fi network available, try connecting the iPhone to a different Wi-Fi network.
  3. Unplug the Wemo Smart Plug, then plug it back in.
  4. Check for available firmware updates in the Wemo app on your iPhone: Belkin Official Support - How to resolve Wemo® firmware update error

Let us know if you're still experiencing the issue after trying these steps.

Cheers!

Hi Melissa_H,

Thanks for getting back to us after trying those steps. You mentioned that you have already restarted the iPhone, however I would like to have you restart any additional devices that are paired to this accessory as well. If there's no change after the devices have been restarted, we'll want to have you reach out to Apple Support next. You can contact them using the link below:
