Help! Time lapse loading forever

I have taken time lapses a few times on my iPhone XR and so far the time lapse has been stuck on loading after I have completed the time lapse. This has happened twice now out of the few times I have used it.

Now I cannot trust the time lapse feature as I lose all the footage because it can’t be used. Is there a fix for this?

Hi! I know this is from some time ago, but I also had this issue. After trying a few different things, I realized it only happened to me if my live photos was turned on. Make sure to turn off live photos and then swipe to time lapse, and as far as I know the ones filmed that aren't loading won't ever load :(

I saw the post saying iOS 13.6 fixed previously broken time lapses. I got very excited. Sadly mine are still stuck on the loading screen. I can report that since changing the below setting I haven’t had the issue occur in new time lapses. I’ve taken 10. It’s by no means a sure fix because this issue is intermittent in nature. For me it does tend to correctly take a time lapse most times then stuff up every now and then. Anyway, might be worth a try for people still experiencing this.

Settings > Camera > Composition > Videos Capture Outside the Frame: Off

makes any difference.

Exact same issue or me. Intermittent but I have had about 5 of them do this now.

This issue is terrible I can’t believe these memories are lost. My only hope is an iOS update “revives” these videos. So I’m leaving them in my photos.

Ive seen heaps of suggestions to turn off Live Photo’s before taking the time lapse. This has appeared to work for me. Obviously really annoying too because you then forget to turn it back on and miss out on more memories. :(

Just tried you report to Apple but I know I’ll end up being told to factory reset my phone. Then what? There’s 709 people so far saying “me too” to this issue. Unlikely my phone specifically, there’s a bug that I really Hope gets squashed.

I'd like to update this issue. I have iPhone 11 Pro, I mentioned above that I had turned off live photos as recommend in many places over the internet and I believed it resolved the issue. I can confirm this does not resolve the issue. I took a time lapse yesterday with live photos off and it failed, "Loading" forever.

I also see the field of view changing. I've seen this mentioned before. What I mean is, I am shooting all my time lapses on the wide lens (.5x). Yes the time lapses that load forever have an image that clearly isn't as wide. I would guess it looks like the field of view of the 1x lens. The only reason I mention this is I see others have said this too and I'm now wondering if it has to do with the wide angle lens. Or maybe it's got something to do with that "capture outside the frame" setting. Where it's trying to do too much with multiple lenses.

I am going to switch that off and will report back. For me this issue is really inconsistent. It seems to only happen on time lapses longer than 5 mins or so but definitely not all of them. I will report back if

Settings > Camera > Composition > Videos Capture Outside the Frame: Off

makes any difference.

Hi Destineo,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're running into an issue using the Time Lapse feature.

Can you provide some detail about what happens when you say it's stuck on loading?

How long is the time lapse video you've recorded? Does it seem to work as expected if you take a short time lapse video?

When you say the footage can't be used, are you getting an error of any kind?

Are you using iCloud Photos?

The answers to these questions will help work out what might be happening. As a starting point, try to Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to see if this helps. Ensuring your software is updated to iOS 12.1.4 is a great idea as well: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch and Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

I hope this helps get you started.

Take care.
