I have taken time lapses a few times on my iPhone XR and so far the time lapse has been stuck on loading after I have completed the time lapse. This has happened twice now out of the few times I have used it.
Now I cannot trust the time lapse feature as I lose all the footage because it can’t be used. Is there a fix for this?

Hi! I know this is from some time ago, but I also had this issue. After trying a few different things, I realized it only happened to me if my live photos was turned on. Make sure to turn off live photos and then swipe to time lapse, and as far as I know the ones filmed that aren't loading won't ever load :(
Same issue here, taking time lapses intermittently results in a video which stays on the “Loading” screen forever (as in sample screenshot from OP).
Apple support ran hardware diagnostics on my phone which were fine, next step suggested a factory restore and see if it still happens. If it does, next step would be an Apple Store appointment. If it doesn’t, I set up my phone as new.
I haven’t done this yet since it is a huge time sink and pain in my a#%^, still looking for a solution online. But in the 7 months I’ve had this XR the only usable time lapses have been ones where I’m doing a test to see if it will ever work. Every time I try to take a “real” one, it has failed me.

Short videos work ok however longer videos make take more time to process. I let the video spin for 20 min before it worked.

I agree with Jasont the phone seems to have a hard time with longer time lapses. I have 12.3 and makes no difference. It frustrating because none of my time lapses that are longer than 5 seconds(in time lapse time) will save.
I erase all content and settings and set as new iPhone since i could not even delete the loading time lapse and for now it is ok, but i did not try to make time lapse again and will not do it until the fix for ios will come...
I just spoke with apple tech support and they are aware of the issue and are actively working on trying to resolve this. However there is no solution to this problem at the moment.
One suggestion was to do a software restore. I haven't tried this yet, so I don't know if that will correct it.
Has anyone done that yet?
Ive found that it happens when I take a time-lapse and then take another video straight after. I filmed a bunch today and forgot to check that the time lapse had loaded between shots and every single one is stuck. Kinda sucks Apples pardon the pun but seriously, I have now segways now ughhhh!
Have people tried downloading separate Timelapse Apps and seeing if they work fine for longer duration videos?
Update. I left the video loading for 20 minutes and seem to have processed properly.
I’m having the same issue with my iPhone XR. The longer time lapse videos are stuck in loading. I left it loading for a few minutes and then it crashes. I’m up to date on my software running iOS 12.2.
I’ve tried it and it was a waste of time. I know that Apple doesn’t monitor these forums (or that’s at least what they say), so I’ve submitted feedback through their online feedback form, but have yet to get a response from them.
Someone recently said they had one of their time lapse videos to process when they happened to have the video up and then used Apple Pay. They said it could have been happenstance, but at this rate it’s worth a shot. I just keep forgetting to try that when I intend to use Apple Pay. Going to make a concerted to effort to see if that’s some weird fix.
I’m using an iPad Pro 11 inch running iOS 13.4. I put a time lapse on a lava lamp and an hour later stopped it and restarted the time lapse again for 10 minutes. The first time lapse keeps loading it does not work. The second time lapse was fine. The issue is with the length. I have lots of memory.

I've taken many time lapses, but my last one hung up "LOADING" and it wasn't my longest time lapse by far.
I tried using iMazing which is an excellent utility. It easily copied off all my time lapses except the bad one.
iMazing knows the thumbnail and shows it, but says filesize is zero. The error message from iMazing is "The photo "IMG_0641.MOV" cannot be transferred because it is stored on iCloud and not on your device."
This is bogus, because iCloud is turned off. I did go to iCloud and check if somehow it was transferring, but my iCloud account is completely empty.
Just wanted to share all of this with you. Obviously something is wrong and I'd like to have it fixed.

For the timelapse getting stuck, it seems to happen randomly. Most of the time when I use the time lapse function is hit record, then after I’m done I hit stop. Then I go to photos and the time lapse will load (compile) and a time lapse is created. However a few times the time lapse just got stuck loading and nothing can be done, see the image below for reference.
The timelapse seems to be stuck in this state.
Yes I am using iCloud photos.
Having trust issues with the time lapse function now, would be great if there’s a solution!
