You can force quit the Mac by holding the power button for an extended amount say ~8-10 secs.
Reboot as normal.

What you'll need to do is the key combination: Command-Option-Escape and then Relaunch your finder.
Once the finder relaunches, I try another key combo: Command-Option-Eject to reboot. If it worked, this last combo, will simply reboot your Mac and you'll be (hopefully) back to normal.
