It is a very simple process, my friend.

  1. Do a "Get Info" -- or command-i -- on the folder whose icon you want to change.
  2. Do a "Get Info" -- or command-i -- on the image icon that you want to use.
  3. In the "Get Info" window of the image icon, click on the little image that is located in the top left corner to select it. It will get a light blue border, or maybe some other color.
  4. Under the "Edit" menu of the image icon, select "Copy" -- or just do a command-c on your keyboard.
  5. In the "Get Info" window of the folder whose icon you want to change, click on the little image that is located in the top left corner to select it. It will get a light blue border, or maybe some other color.
  6. Under the "Edit" menu of the folder whose "Get Info" window is open, select "Paste" -- or just do a command-v on your keyboard.
  7. Your folder will now have the new icon.
  8. Well done! :)

NOTE #1: You can also do a "Get Info" by hovering over a file or folder and right-clicking it to reveal a contextual menu. Just select the "Get Info" option in the menu.

NOTE#2: You can also use a large image by opening it, doing a select all -- command-a -- and then copying it -- command-c.

I hope the above was easy to understand. It should work.

Hello, my friend. Wow . . . I was not aware of that. SVG files can be troublesome, apparently. I encountered the same thing as you. Doing a simple copy and paste in the "Get Info" window did NOT work. Even opening an SVG in Adobe Photoshop, selecting all, and then copying, did NOT work. Dropping an SVG on the "Get Info" window also did NOT work. The only thing that DID work, was when I converted the SVG to a JPG. Then it DID work. I could open both "Get Info" windows, and copy and paste, as I described in my previous message. What a hassle! :(

Leroy, I think you -- and a few others here -- are missing an important point which Mtfotonut and I discussed earlier in this thread. That is the fact that command-c and command-v apparently do NOT work with SVG files. As I said earlier:

So to reiterate, it appears that SVGs need to be converted to another format -- such as PNG or JPG -- before command-c and command-v will work with them in the "Get Info" window. If anyone commenting here has experienced otherwise, it would be interesting to know, along with exactly how you accomplished it.
