What driver to install to connect Yamaha Clavinova CLP 550 as a MIDI controller?

Hi there - hope you can help me. My daughter has discovered Garage Band and would like to connect her YAMAHA Clavinova CLP 550 electric piano to her MacBook (running the latest OS) and use it as a controller. She bought a cable with USB on one side (plugs in to the Mac) and two 5-pin plugs on the other side. In between is a bos / converter with three leds on it. When she plugs it in, GBand detects a MIDI device, but playing the piano doesnt do anything. We think we might have to install a drive. But which one? We went to the Yamaha website and found this page ... http://faq.yamaha.com/us/en/article/musical-instruments/keyboards/digitalpianos/p_series/dgx-640_color_variation/10667/8414/

They say : "When attempting to connect our 5-Pin MIDI instruments (without USB TO HOST port) to a computer using a 3rd-Party USB-MIDI interface, our customers should contact the manufacturer for connectivity support. "

However ... the supplier claims it should work without driver ...

Anyone any experience with this or ideas?

since the interface does not require a driver, there are two likely issues. while the first might seem obvious it's worth double checking that you have a software track selected.

the second is that people often insert the MIDI plugs in reverse order (and with GB you only need one): be sure that the "MIDI-IN" plug is connected to the "MIDI-OUT" port on the keyboard
