Restoring SSD externally. Process is frozen/hanging in Disk Utility. What should I do?

I was restoring a usb connected SSD externally using Disk Utility. The process just paused/hung after 10 mins and it's been stuck this way for 2hours now, as in the below screenshot.

I first erased the SSD (taken from another computer) and then I did first aid on it to verify it was healthy. I did not partition it.

Has anyone got any idea what should I do? Thank you! :)

*I realise now that restoring was not what I actually needed to do. I simply want to install this SSD as my new SSD in a newer Mac, so I was attempting to 'clone' the new Mac's SSD to this one.

just a guess...when you erased that other SSD I'll bet you did it using Mac OS extended and now you are I'd think treading on foreign ground restoring a APFS SSD to a Mac OS extended. I don't think it would take....I'd probably force quit the process, which may just damage for good the older SSD but it may not. AND....if you can't revive it using macOS Disk Utility than I'd definitely try booting Yosemite if you can and use its DU to revive that SSD.
