Mojave Local Networking Problems

Since upgrading to Mojave on my Mac Mini and my Macbook I have major local networking issues. They both access the internet fine but the local networking has issues. I have rebooted both computers and the router many times. I have the firewall enabled with FileSharing and Sonos enabled for access. I have even disabled the firewall to test. I have a third computer (Macbook Air) that I left on High Sierra and it has no issues.

  • The Mac Mini no longer can be connected to with FileSharing from my Macbook. It had been working great for years. The Mac Mini shows up on my Macbook Air fine with FileSharing which is still running High Sierra
  • The Mac Mini no longer can see my Airport Extreme with the Airport utility. Neither can my Macbook. My Macbook Air with High Sierra brings up the Airport Extreme fine with Airport Utility.
  • The Mac Mini and Macbook no longer can see my Sonos system which had been working for years very well with High Sierra and previous OS.

Any Ideas?

I was able to solve my issue today. It turns out the Firewall in the McAfee virus protection defaulted to Public network. I had to go to the McAfee Internet Security Preferences -> Firewall -> Network Connections and change the Type from Public to Home or Work. I also went to Application Protection in McAfee and checked the box for Allow all Apple signed binaries. Things worked fine with High Sierra and previous OS for years so I am not sure what changed in the installation of Mojave, but these configuration changes to McAfee solved my FileSharing issue.
