Timer doesn’t sound when screen is off

For a few months now, I’ve noticed that the timer on my iPhone SE doesn’t ring when the time is up. I noticed this when doing a timed workout, where I had to keep setting the timer for one minute. My screen automatically locks after one minute and I couldn’t hear anything once the minute was up. I chalked it up to the alarm being too quiet to hear over jumping jacks and such. So I changed the auto-lock to two minutes, and could hear the timer going off as normal. It’s not the best solution, but in this situation it works.

But when I set the timer for two minutes to do a cool down, when the room is quieter, my phone does different things. Either it vibrates to the complete tune of one alarm, or it vibrates just a short buzz, or it makes no sound at all. I’ve also set longer timers where the time runs out and I get absolutely no notification.

How can I fix this?

Alarm & Timer takes precedence over everything else.

I tried these...

  • Set a timer for 15 secs. Locked the screen manually. The timer went off after 15 secs
  • Set a timer for 45 secs. Auto Lock screen set for 30 Secs/ The timer went off after 45 secs (The screen was locked after 30 Sces due to Auto Lock)
  • Changed the Tone for "When the timer ends" to Bulletin. Tested for above two scenario. The timer went off as expected.
  • Changed the Tone for "When the timer ends" to Stop Playing. Tested for above two scenario. Timer did not go off.

I hope I am wrong, you need not answer, just introspect.

  • Have you installed any third party Timer app from iTunes?
  • Have you installed any app from the internet (Unauthorised)

This is usually the last resort since it resets all your personalised features back to factory defaults.

Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

  • What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy.
  • Resetting all settings also reverts all your personalised and customised features like wallpapers and accessibility settings back to factory defaults.
  • Performing this action does not impact any of your personal device data, including photos, videos, notes, messages, reminders, emails, calendars, texts, documents, and other files
