7th Generation Nano and MP3 Player

I recently reset my Nano and MP3 Player using iTunes. Both worked fine prior to the reset. Now both are clear of music. I have tried multiple times to transfer audio books from my library. Never had a problem until the reset. I have tried Automatic and Manuel. The units sync and appear to be downloading, but then nothing. It must have something to do with reset since both units are reacting the same way, but cannot figure it out. I have reset several times thinking one would take, still nothing

If you have used Restore, then your iPod will not have nothing on it. iTunes will not put anything on it until you select sync options.

So to get audiobooks onto your iPod you will have to do the following:

  • connect the iPod to your computer and wait for iTunes to see it
  • click on the iPod icon that appears at the top of the iTunes window:

  • that shows the Device/Settings/Summary pane, which looks similar to the one below:

  • now tap on Device/Settings/Audiobooks (1.), which will show you this screen:

  • tick the Sync Audiobooks box (2.)
  • You can leave 3. as All Audiobooks, or choose Selected Audiobooks
  • If you chose Selected Audiobooks, another section will appears underneath it, which allows you to chose which ones you want
  • click on Sync (4.). Until you do this, your changes will not take effect because the sync which started when you connected the iPod to iTunes will have already finished
  • once the sync has completed, eject the iPod using the eject icon at the top of the iTunes window. In the last screenshot, it's just to the left of my marker 2. and just above the battery icon

Regarding the iPod nano, did you perform a Reset or a Restore?

  • A Reset can be performed on the iPod itself, without connecting to iTunes. Nothing is deleted from the iPod by a reset
  • A Restore is performed through iTunes, using the Restore iPod button on the Device/Settings/Summary pane (see picture below). Everything is deleted from the iPod and iTunes will then regard it as a new iPod. That is - new and not seen by that iTunes Library. This means that there are now no sync options set.

If you used Restore, you will need to set the options you want for adding music and Audiobooks, by connecting the iPod to iTunes, looking on the Device/Settings/Audiobooks pane:

When you look on the Audiobooks pane, you will see sync options. Remember to Sync after changing these settings (click the Sync button in the lower right corner of the iTunes window.

With regards to the MP3 player; iTunes is not designed to control or manage other brands of MP3 player. You will need to consult the instructions for that player.

Both units are Apple products. All of these things I have tried, in addition to removing and adding computer back to Apple support. Also rebooted after changes. The sync circle is going like crazy but nothing is recording. I would have thought perhaps it was the unit except, the exact same thing happened after I restore/reset. I have run out of places to look
