Brand new sealed Macbook pro - DEP/stolen maybe

hi

Recently i purchased a brand new sealed MacBook Pro 15" 2018 model, I checked everything about it according to web guides:

  • Warranty
  • bios password
  • no icloud
  • etc

back home I decided to reinstall the os, after the setup was done I ended up with a DEP MacBook, enrolled by an apple reseller iviezi.nl.

I contacted them and they told me the MacBook is reported stolen, still waiting for them to fully check the status

please advice I have this questions in my head:

  • should I be in peace with loosing almost 2000E and send it back if they ask me to.
  • report it to the local police? ( in this case I have to leave the MacBook with them and they can't send it back because it's considered evidence if I file a complain)
  • how come when I checked the serial everything was ok?
  • how come anyone can steal a sealed MacBook from a shop?

If you purchased stolen goods that is a shame. But you won't be able to keep it nor should you keep it. Your only recourse is to get your money back from the seller, but that seems unlikely if the seller ( it’s just a name and a number on the internet) is the thief. There is an old adage, if some thing seems too good to be true then it likely is. If you got an extremely good deal then you should have been suspicious.

With respect to how someone can steal a package item from a shop, it happens frequently. They walk into the shop, pick something up, and walk out.

Regarding the serial number, Apple does not track stolen property. It is not the job of Apple to track stolen property. Maybe if you checked the serial number with the police it may have showed up stolen.

I see no information on-line for " iviezi.nl " as you have posted it, and

whois turns up very little.

You will just have to ride it out for some conclusion— nothing can be done here in the ASC.

I certainly would contact your local police for legal issues.

Hi, thank you for your reply

https://ivizi.nl/ i wrote the name wrong, my bad.

i can go to local police but according to law a product is considered stolen if there is a complain regarding this issue. If i go and drop it there is as good as lost.

in order to go for the legal road, i will need an official document or copy from their complain regarding a stolen product with this macbook serial number. Afterwards i can go and try a legal battle with the seller to recover my money, but in this case it’s just a name and a number on the internet, most cases like this one end up in loosing money, both for the product and legal actions because the seller stays unidentified.

im still waiting for an official response from ivizi, but in my country the product is not declared stolen by nobody, the seller ( dead phone number now) sent me a picture with a courier paper, claiming he bought it from another seller for a lower price

Hi,

thank you for your answer

i had no idea when purchased that this macbook is enrolled and might be stolen, it was brand new sealed, the was only 100€ lower from other offers and 700€ lower than on a certified seller.

i order for the police to have a serial number on a case the item has to be stolen from my country.

i dont want to keep a stolen product, thats why i have contacted ivizi reseller and apple support and asked for directions, even if in the end i lose a lot of cash from my family budget, let this be a lesson to me and maybe for others reading this post.

i could have stayed quiet and enjoyed the product, but im a better person than that.
