Photostream doesn't appear in Photos after recovering Photo Library from a backup

Hello,

I recovered my photo library from a backup today and everything looks like it should except the Photostream album disappeared. Usually pictures from my iPhone automatically appear on my iMac in my Photostream album and this isn't happening. I checked both the settings on my iPhone and on my desktop and they are both set to Photostream. I don't have iCloud photo library activated, but on my desktop "my photo stream" is selected. On the iPhone I have "My Photo Stream" selected in settings. My Internet connection is fine, and it has always worked.

Anyone have any ideas as to how I can get the Photostream album to appear in Photos? Thanks!

iMac, OS X 10.11

I checked both the settings on my iPhone and on my desktop and they are both set to Photostream. .... I don't have iCloud photo library activated, but on my desktop "my photo stream" is selected.

On your Mac you need first to open the restored library in Photos and enable "Photos > General >Use as System Photo Library. This option needs to be grayed out. Only then enable My Photo Stream again.

Are you signed into iCloud with the same AppleID as before?

Where did you check on your iMac, if iCloud Photos is off and My Photo Stream is on? You need to check both in the

  • System Preferences > iCloud > Photos > Options.
  • and in Photos > Preferences > iCloud.

iCloud Photos needs to be off, and my Photo Stream on.

My Photo Stream will still work in the background and transfer new photos from the iPad and iPhone, even if it is not shown, if iCloud Photos is enabled.

I triple-checked everything and then got the brilliant idea to re-start the computer. NOW the Photostream album appears and all pictures are up-to-date. Must have been some hiccup when I opened the newly-copied Photos Library to my replacement external from my Time Machine external. Thank you for your help and patience, these things can be frustrating!
