USB scanner not being powered

My Canoscan LIDE 90 USB scanner is not receiving power from my Mac Mini (High Sierra 10.13.6)

I have the most recent drivers for this scanner installed.

System report shows the scanner in the USB section - so it is recognised by the computer, but it won't appear in Image Capture as a device, nor on some 3rd party scanning apps I have tried.

There is no On/Off switch on the scanner but as far as I can tell it is drawing no power

Mac mini, macOS 10.13

Hmm.... I would try,

  1. connecting the scanner to a different USB port.
  2. using a different USB cord between the scanner and Mac Mini.
  3. connecting the scanner to a different computer to see if it is working.

If the scanner worked with a PC or a different Mac, then I would try resetting the Mac Mini's NVRAM and SMC..
