Siri Found in Apps still work if Mail removed?

Hi team, does anyone know if Siri Found in Apps will still work if I removed the native Apple Mail App? I am using the Gmail App for iOS. Would it pull the info on a contact from that? An example is if I receive a call from an unknown number Siri will say who it thinks the person is based on data from the Mail App. Will this work from the Gmail App?

Do the following on each iPhone, iPod touch and iPad:

Step 1: Launch Settings.

Step 2: Navigate to the Contacts section, then tap on Siri & Search.

Step 3: Toggle the switch labeled Find Contacts in Other Apps to the OFF position.

disable suggested contacts iphone

“Turning this off will delete any unconfirmed contact suggestions and prevent contact suggestions from appearing in apps,” reads the feature description.

This is what will happen when Contacts Found in Apps is disabled:

  • Your iPhone will stop rummaging through on-device list of contacts, looking for contacts with phone numbers.
  • Incoming phone calls from unknown numbers will show up as “Unknown” instead of aptly suffixed by “Maybe:”.
