the headphone plugged in but sound coming out of speaker from iphone Xs

i recently bought an iphone Xs and the headphones that came with it do not work. i plug them in and the sound comes out of the speaker from the phone. My question is, is there any way that i can get a new pair or will i have to buy new headphones out of my own pocket?

Hello,

Yes, you should be able to take them back and have them examined.

However, see these steps first:

1) Check the charging port for lint or other debris

2) See this link: Use Apple headphones with your iPhone, iPad, and iPod

3) Also this link: If your headphones don‘t work with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If no help, try this:

1) Open the Control Center

2) 3D press (or long press) on the music controls

3) Select the output option (little up-arrow with circles)

4) Select headphones

Good luck.
