what is 'automatically allow downloaded signed software to receive incoming connections'? in system preferences? I have a 2018 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar 13 inch. latest operating system macOS 10.14.4

Thank you for your reply, one other question, is it safe (in general) on a home network that's password protected to have the settings like this?

Yes sure it is safe, otherwise Apple doesn't suggest it.
