Mojave 10.14.4 fails to Authenticate Gmail account

Just update to Mojave 10.14.4 and now Apple Mail will NOT connect to one of my Gmail accounts.

This issue is UNIQUE to Apple Mail as I can access the Gmail account using Spark on the same computer without issues.

This issue is UNIQUE to Mojave 10.14.4 as it did not exist with 10.14.3 and it does not exist on another computer running an earlier version of Mac OS X.

The issue puts me in an endless loop. I get a notification "Google requires completing authentication in Safari." This takes me to a Sign in dialog where I enter email account and password. Password is correct and accepted, after which I'm back in the loop again asking to enter Google Password.

If I login to my Google account in Safari I can see the recent events that I signed in without any problems on this Mac, but Apple Mail does NOT connect and I am back in the endless loop.

Oddly I can add events to the Google Calendar for the account so apparently something is amiss strictly with Apple Mail.

Suggestions?

Thanks to mulberrywriter for the answer .

Most easiest way without downloading and deleting accounts.

  1. Go to your gmail account in browser.
  2. There is a little gear in your gmail under all emails (I did this way so explain step by step from my side)
  3. Choose Settings under that gear
  4. Choose Account and Imports
  5. Choose Other Google Account settings
  6. Choose Review your privacy settings.
  7. Choose device information. If it is Turned off - you need t click on it and turn it ON. If it is ON, You can turn it off and again turn it on.
  8. Do not logout. Go to Mail and Click on Lighting icon near your account.
  9. Click everything it will ask.
  10. In browser you will see an option to "Allow". Click it and DONE. It will finish authentication smoothly.

Process takes 2 minutes. All calendar info and emails will stay with no issues. I hope it will works fine after as well.

My Gsuite is also an old one also that is grandfathered but it is using an email address I have used for 20 years. I will switch to a non apple computer before I will give up that email address and I don't have to pay Google and they have much better spam filtering than other places where I might host that email address with my own domain. I like the Apple mail.app but and using Spark now.

I've tried the various fixes too and nothing works. So very frustrating. I use the grandfathered GSuite as well. My iPhone and iPad still work fine with my Google Mail account through Apple Mail and were updated to iOS 12.2 yesterday. At least I have the access on those devices, but I use my iMac constantly for email.

Hoping for a speedy fix.

I had this problem myself. Of three gmail accounts, it seems to affect only Gsuite accounts (the account affected was for a domain that I am the admin for so I can confirm that it was Gsuite only.

The workaround that the Google customer service rep helped me come up with involved turning off two-factor authentication, then deleting the account and setting it up as a manually set up mail account (using imap.gmail.com as the incoming server and smtp.gmail.com as the outgoing server).

This should tide us over until Apple comes up with a fix.

Yes, and yes. IMAP has been enabled since I've had my email hosted on Gsuite to be able to use Mail and other apps.

I just called Google, and they suggested trying the Enforce access to less secure apps (I had it set to Allow), and said it may take a few hours to propagate. I'm not sure this will change anything, but it seems there are other authentication issues beyond the Mac bug.

FWIW, I have no problem with my MacBook Pro which hasn't been updated to 10.14.4, my iPhone, or my iPad (both 12.2).

For what it's worth, this solution (or variants thereof) did not work for me.

In my case I had no problem with a personal account or a private-domain Gsuite account that uses standard authentication, but a corporate Gsuite account that uses CAS sign-in continues to throw the "Email Address Mismatch" error (which seems to be slightly different than the error a lot of people here are getting?).

I assume at least in my case it's the external sign-in that's causing problems (not the first time, won't be the last) but will have to wait for Apple to issue a fix.

Same problem here. My personal Gmail account works and I can remove it and add it, but my business (paid) GSuite account does not work. When I authenticate with paid account credentials, my personal account is added to Mac OS Internet Accounts. If the personal account was added first, then the error message is "You have already logged in as ....".

@lowfreakwency, here's what I posted earlier (YMMV):

I had a number of Gmail accounts with this problem - although not all my Gmail accounts were affected. I got tired of waiting for a fix from Apple, so here's the workaround I used on all of them:

1) Quit out of the Mail app if it's running.

2) Completely remove (not just disable) the affected account(s) from System Preferences > Internet Accounts.

3) Log into https://accounts.google.com/signin/v2/identifier.

4) Click on Security, then click 2-Step Verification and make sure it's OFF (if you don't do this, the next step won't even be an option).

5) Set "less secure app access" ON.

6) Re-add the account(s) from System Preferences > Internet Accounts.

7) Launch the Mail app - the account(s) should sync.

I have 2 personal Google accounts. One is ok and the other is dead. When I try to add it again, the email comes wrong and nothing works.

What I do: add Gmail manually, add Google Contacts manually and both works. But I've tried several ways to add Google through CalDav and doesn't works.

Someone knows how to add Google Calendar account manually?

Thanks for some help!
