Safari 12.1 no longer shows visited links

On my High Sierra MacBook Pro, Safari was upgraded to 12.1 overnight. Now, visited links no longer change color (from blue to violet). This affects pages without any special CSS configuration.

I and many others on various forums have reported this.

I did not find this post. Some more details.

Just installed the latest Safari, 12.1 (13607.1.40.1.5) - macOS 10.13.6 (17G5019)

In many forums, the already visited topics are distinguished in colour/shade etc. Since I installed this version of Safari, this is working inconsistently.

Launch Safari, go to page, old topics are distinguished. Go to another page, they are not distinguished. Quit and restart, changes are there, go to a new page, no changes.

I have seen this reported on a few sites.
