iMessage will not open on my MacBook Pro.

iMessage is in my dock, but will not open when I click on it. I have tried opening it from my applications, but it says, "the application messages is not open anymore." It will not let me remove it from my dock. I have also tried to force quit, but nothing happens.

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.14

Hey kkloc,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I see you're having trouble getting Messages to work, and based on what you're describing, I think the app might be stuck booting. A quick way to test this is by forcing the app itself to shut down: How to force an app to quit on your Mac - Apple Support

If that doesn't work, try booting in safe mode and see if it's working any better there: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support. If the issue isn't happening while in safe mode, try restarting the Mac normally and try again from the live environment. Be sure to update the thread with your findings.

Cheers!

Hi kkloc, my name is Lisa from Apple. I see that iMessage will no respond with you. Here are some things you can do.

  • Restart your MacBook Pro
  • Force Quit the application by using Command+Option+Escape or Go to Apple logo on the top then click force click. Also, relaunch Finder as well
  • If none of those work then Contact Apple support, Schedule a call with us, or take you MacBook Pro to your local Apple store
