Enabling TRIM on SSD

I recently installed a 1TB WD SSD in my iMac. I was told that I should run the TRIM command to improve the performance of my SSD drive. I have a 3TB External SATA drive connected to the iMac. When I ran the TRIM command, I got a message saying that enabling could cause connected devices to lose data.

What my question is, if I disconnect the 3 TB external SATA drive and run TRIM then plug my external drive back in, will this cause me to lose any data on the external hard drive while TRIM is enabled?

You should uncheck "Put hard disk to sleep when possible" in the Energy Saver System Preferences as it really isn't needed for an SSD. Also putting some SSD's to sleep can cause problems such as slow wake up times. Disabling this feature should also allow the SSD's internal garbage collection routines time to run especially if TRIM is not enabled.
