apple tv fast forward not working

Since the Apple TV upgrade post March 25,2019 event, the fast forward no longer works on the Apple TV remote. The extra controls that are supposed to show up in the phone app do not appear. Is this issue specific to EU countries? I see Siri controls do not work in Ireland which is most annoying given that we are primarily an English speaking country.
