New Modem/Router Has Messed Up Time Capsule

I recently threw in the towel using my Time Capsule as my wireless router. I figured if Apple wasn't going to pursue it, then neither would I. To try and summarize - I went from having an Ubee Modem (through Spectrum) and Orbi (NetGear) Router using the Time Capsule as my backup. Spectrum then releases high-speed internet service (+400 Mbps), and I have to switch to a Spectrum modem. I had every intention of using the Orbi Router. Alas, those two do not play well together. I followed Spectrum's advice and installed their router. (Not happy about that, but it works well.) I was able to connect my Airport Express and music streams through the whole house. And then, I waited a couple of days to make sure everything was going well, I hooked up the Time Capsule. I'm able to access it from my iMac and my MacBook Pro. It shows my oldest backup, which is correct.

I am able to connect to my wife's MacBook Air, but it only shows history from yesterday.

When I open up System Preferences, I see another Time Capsule available. When I go to use that one, however, it asked me for a Password. I assume I guessed correctly and typed in the PW for the new router. It connected, but it was as if it was a new backup. Nothing on it.

Am I going to be able to access from that Time Capsule for this machine?

Thanks!

If you are saying that the MacBook Air has backed up to the Time Capsule in the past......then it might appear as if it is starting all over again.

Sometimes, after some time......it might be an hour or two.......Time Machine will "find" and "recognize" the old backups and simply add to them......and sometimes it will not.

You will need to wait until the MacBook Air backup finishes.

Then, you can open up Time Machine Preferences again to take a look at the backup "history". If there were old backups of the MacBook Air and the process simply added a new backup, then you will see that the history indicates this.

If Time Machine started all over again with a new complete backup, then the backup history will show backups from today moving forward.

When I open up System Preferences, I see another Time Capsule available.

Not sure that I understand what you are trying to say here, and Apple is not very clear in their labeling.

If you look closely, you will see that KLOS Time Capsule is already set up as a backup destination for the Mac that you are using under the "Backup Discs" label at the top of the window.

The same Time Capsule.....KLOS Time Capsule is listed as an available backup destination for any other Macs that you might want to back up to the Time Capsule under the "Available Discs" label.

So, on the screenshot above the same Time Capsule....KLOS Time Capsule......is listed as a current backup destination and also as a potential backup destination for another Mac.

The next screenshot.......

Indicates that the Mac that you are currently using has not ever backed up to the Time Capsule......."Oldest Backup None".......and "Latest Backup None".

So, in order for this Mac to back up, you would need to click Select Disk and choose the backup destination......KLOS Time Capsule.....that you want to use for this Mac.

The first backup will copy everything on the Mac over to the Time Capsule, then after the first backup of the Mac has completed, Time Machine will only back up the changes on the Mac that have occurred since the last backup.

To see the backup summary of each Mac, you will have to click on Open Time Machine Preferences on each Mac to see the details about the Mac that you are using at the time.

IF.....you are saying that the MacBook Air has been previously backing up to the Time Capsule, and you want to continue with backups of the MacBook Air to the Time Capsule, then something has gone wrong.

Bob, thanks for the very timely response. Sorry for the confusion. The first screen shot that I posted that showed the Oldest Backup as being August 28, 2017 was from my iMac. The remaining screen shots were taken from the MacBook Air which should have had the same backup as the iMac. As I was posting my initial question, I went ahead and started the backup of the MacBook Air. As you state, the first backup is long - about two hours. It's still in process (with just less than an hour remaining). HOWEVER, I opened up the Time Machine and it is slowly restoring the backup. Is this what it's supposed to do? I'll put you down as being "helpful" for the time being, but if this solved my problem, I'll give you full credit! Thanks!
