Mouse cursor cannot select files in Finder, and issues with Photoshop display

Ever since upgrading to Mojave I've had a couple of ongoing issues. I am using OS Version 10.14.3 on a 27" Mac.

The first is the more important: When I open finder and try to select a file or folder the cursor is unable to select it. Nothing happens, it does not open and does not highlight. I can scroll to the file/folder using the arrow keys, and I can click anywhere else on the screen with the cursor, but I am unable to select the actual file/folder with the cursor. It happens about 50% of the time. Sometimes relaunching Finder solves the issue, sometimes it doesn't.

Second issue: This pertains to Photoshop CC 20.0.3. Sometimes when working in Photoshop a small area of my canvas will randomly get distorted, pixelated colors. If I zoom in and out it sometimes solve the issue about about 10-15 seconds. It is happening at least once a day using different files. I will attach a screenshot sample. I have asked for help with this in the Adobe forums but have not found an answer.

Any thoughts on how to fix these? I have had nothing but problems since "upgrading" to Mojave. I wish I had never done it. My computer worked perfectly for 2 years until I upgraded, and now there is always something wrong with it. Ug!

Anyways, thank you in advance!

First try the following:

Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

If you're still having problems boot into Safe Mode, Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac, test your cursor there and then reboot normally. Retest again.

Lastly if you're still having issues try downloading and applying the macOS Mojave 10.14.4 Combo Update.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing some system cache cleaning, volume verifying and directory repairing.

Sorry for the delayed reply (been away from the house and only recently had a chance to try these steps.)

Unfortunately these steps did not help with the Finder issues and the problem persists off and on. Sometimes it won't do it for a few days, and other times it does it multiple times a day. And today I had a weird issue where the thumbnail of a jpg file remained frozen on my screen until I did a Force Quit on the Finder window.

I think the Photoshop discoloration issues have been resolved, though. But the issues with Finder remain :(
