virus iphone? Uknown russian contacts and outgoing calls that never happened

My daugther's iphone SE suddenly got 200 russian contacts and from the call menu it seems as if she has been calling all these numbers. But when I check with the phone company there has been no calls to Russia.

Her contacts are not synced with facebook or anything similar.

The call list keeps getting these new outgoing calls which never happened. New ones pop up all day.

The new contacts are all listed under "#" after the last real contact in her contact-list.

Any ideas on what might cause this and how to get rid of it?

Problem solved - wasn't hacked or virus - just an old iphone still logged in and in use in Russia...

WhatsApp doesn't use passwords - you authenticate through your mobile number. So how can anyone access it?

I deleted the app and reinstalled, and added two-step auth.

I guess we can't stop them from calling, but it's the saved contacts that worries me. Just did a full clean and removed 153 contacts. Will check tomorrow and see if they reappear.

Hm. Ask her daughter if she is using like 'Common Apple ID' for purchases. That's why it could happen.

No, that's not it. She doesn't even know her own password. She has been on her own personal ID all the time. Family sharing is on, but she is the only one this has happened to.
