Disable 10.14.4 Safari auto-submit of login forms

In the interim, try using, "Safari Technology Preview."

I just discovered Google Chrome browser for the first time because of this safari bug. Seems to be a great alternative to safari, highly recommend just switching.

This is the dumbest feature I can imagine! It is really ANNOYING.

It is also extremely DANGEROUS with phishing sites and this feature will without doubt increase the amount of accounts that are stolen! STUPID FEATURE!!!!!!

There is no option to "think twice" anymore, a lot of people will automatically select their login on a phishing site believing that they still have the option to investigate and change their mind before clicking login. But now? No, you can't change your mind, you just lost your account and you can thank Apple for this recklessness.

I am finding that I have to open about 1/5 of my frequently-used websites in Chrome because of this bug. https://boards.greenhouse.io throws a popup asking for your LInkedIn credentials and Safari puts something in there and submits it before I even know what it inserted -- but I CAN tell you that the authentication fails and the only workaround is Chrome or Firefox.

FWIW you can edit passwords without opening the particular web site in question and waiting for it to through up an error, just open Safari Preferences and go to the Passwords tab. Search for the particular site and then edit the password associated with it, then next time you visited that site Autofill will use the new password.

I accept some consider this shouldn’t be necessary but I will not go into that aspect, suffice to say you can get around the issue of Safari continually using and hence forwarding a wrong password.

You can also edit passwords and website login data from Keychain Access, but I don’t think Apple would like users to go that way when Safari Preferences offers a more friendly option.

Hope this is of some help until Apple decide to correct the issue.

You can turn off the password feature in Safari in the Safari/Password/Advanced preference pane by unchecking this checkbox.:

This "feature" will be removed into Safari 13.

Yep, seeing the same thing. Seems like Apple doesn't QA their own software during actual day to day use. Not sure why they changed the way it worked in the first place. I don't need it to "auto press enter". I liked how it was before in that I can choose the username/password to enter into each respective field and then I'LL press enter when I'm ready.

I'm not sure but this issue could be affecting people differently depending on the sites they visit, out of all the sites I've checked so far only one is demonstrating this "auto enter" behaviour, for every other site I have to trackpad click on ID and Password stages.

ps. Sorry did not see your last post in time, but one of the 15 sites I checked used Captcha and again my autofill paused after ID entry, then filled Password after captcha was successfully completed.

I get your point. I want the same thing. I want to be able to click a credential to use from the drop-down (without having to use touchID), and NOT have it auto enter. Essentially, just go back to the way it was in 10.14.3.

I think you/we have to accept the facts, there’s a current problem with entering passwords for certain sites, all the moaning and finger pointing will not alter that. The original post was what can be done to avoid having this issue lock the sites, I’ve given my thoughts and a possible work around, may be you can offer an alternative, if not it’s not worth continuing this discussion.

I do agree with Whiteatom, this new feature is really annoying! An option to activate or deactivate it should be available.

By now, I do no have any other options than get back to Google Chrome until Apple do something... :/

That advice was really directed at trogalewski, the more people that send requests via Feedback to include a function or resolve an issue the more likely it will get noticed by Apple, there is certainly no guarantee they will see it in the forum.

With respect to useful response, you can only post on what’s possible under the circumstances, if no off button exists at the moment for this issue then work arounds are the only current alternative, no matter how much that is disliked by some.
