Disable 10.14.4 Safari auto-submit of login forms

One of the new "features" in the latest Safari update is that it auto-submits login forms after populating your passwords for you. While good in theory, it's a disaster for me. I use a few sites that have Captchas on them and when i click on my username, the password populates and Safari submits the form before I have completed the captcha causing a login failure.

Is there a way to disable this feature? I have dug through the settings and can't seem to find the option. I've already been locked out of one account and I'm scared to login to my school website for fear of getting locked out of that too!

This is 100% a new bug/feature in 10.4.4. It's not an issue with how websites implemented password entries. It's an issue with how Safari now implements auto filling passwords on sites. This is not a site issue. It's an Apple Safari issue.

I don't believe any of us want to turn off password autofill -- we are trying to disable auto-submit.

Then try LastPass. You can have it autofill only on specific sites and do an auto login/submit on others.

I agree with you @ronlap. I also don't want to start using some other program. This feature was a fail and it just needs to be fixed.

Disabling the auto fill is not the issue - it's the auto submit. We all like the auto-fill and don't want to give it up because Apple ruined the final step.

Oh, definitely not an ideal situation. But that’s what we users have to go through until Apple decides to polish and make their “feature” more inclusive of the captchas.

Doesn't work on sites where the captcha pops up after you enter your username.

This is so frustrating. I am locked out of two websites, apple needs to fix this soon in the safari.

Yes - this is a crazy bad idea. I am having all sorts of problems logging into CAPTCHA sites - very annoying...

This "feature" will be removed into Safari 13.

You can try the last version of Safari Technology Preview to see it for yourlself!

Yes, Safari 13 will supposed to be available for macOS High Sierra and Mojave as well.

I just discovered Google Chrome browser for the first time because of this safari bug. Seems to be a great alternative to safari, highly recommend just switching.
