Why are the photos in JPEG-format in IPhone XS? It’s an old format. And how can I change them to JPG???

The reason for the different file extensions dates back to the early versions of Windows. The original file extension for the Joint Photographic Expert Group File Format was JPEG. However in Windows all files required a three letter file extension. So, the file extension was shortened to .JPG.
However, Macintosh was not limited to three letter file extensions, so Mac users used .JPEG Eventually, with upgrades Windows also began to accept .JPEG.
As Kurt Lang and JimmyCMPIT pointed out, JPEG and JPG are the same thing. What you CAN do is save photos as HEIF. Go to Settings/Camera - Formats and choose High Efficiency, or choose Most Compatible if you want JPEG (JPG). The downside of HEIF is that Windows doesn't deal with it, and any older photo management apps won't know what it is. So you would need to update any photo editing or photo management apps that you have.
Thanks! I know it’s the same but I have to send them to a site that only accept them in jpg and I see know they are in jpeg, so how can I change them. The settings are already in high efficiency.
Yes, I want but how can I do that? The site I will send the files to doesn’t allow me to change anything in filename, just bring them from my album or choose to delete them...
Copy the files from your iPhone to your desktop - Mac or Windows. Change the file extensions to .jpg and upload.
