Audio Roles

I'm having a bit of trouble with my audio. It was recorded with one input so when I import it into Final Cut Pro it only comes from one ear on my headphones. This was a pretty easy fix I thought. I just went into the inspector under audio and changes the audio from Stereo to Dual Mono. This works with some of my clips, but I can't seem to change anything at all for audio from synchronized clips. Does anyone know if there is any way to fix audio for synchronized clips?
