Can't find the macbook files that I transferred from document folder and desktop folder to iCloud

I transferred a bulk of files and folders from Macbook Document folder and Desktop folder to iCloud Drive. I used the drag and drop mechanism.

But now I don't see the files in either iCloud drive nor in in older folders Documents and Desktop.

I am aware that all these folders and files are somewhere in Macbook or OneDrive as I am able to search them individually via the finder.

Can someone help to retrieve them?

Thanks for your response. What exactly helped me was checking that my iCloud drive was synching.

Now the fact that I have moved the documents from macbook to iCloud drive, I still don't see that the storage space in my macbook has been released. I want to upgrade to a new version of MacOS and I need to empty the local storage space on my mac.
