Frustrated with the XR's Portrait Mode Limitations

As many millennials, I am into photography and like to take pictures of my food and dog and nature, etc. In fact, it is rare that I am actually taking pictures of myself or other people. Therefore I am very frustrated to learn that the iPhone XR does not have the background blur effect of portrait mode for anything other than when a person is detected. When I was presented with the choice of purchasing either an XS or XR, it became a very difficult decision being that the XR has a better battery life than the XS, which is huge because iPhones have terrible battery life. Therefore I went with the XR, because what's the point in getting the phone with a more comprehensive portrait mode, when my phone is dead and I cant take the picture in the first place. Day by day though, it is irritating me more and more. Why would I have to choose between better photos, or better battery when I am spending upwards of $800?

Will the iPhone XR ever be able to take portrait mode pictures on objects other than a person?

iPhone XR, iOS 12

You can do it using the 3rd party camera app that allows it. Like Halide.

However, iPhone XR was never advertised like it could take portraits of food, dogs and other objects.

Portrait Mode requires dual-lens set-up which iPhone XR doesn't have. No one forced you to buy it, no one told that it has this feature, so you are the only one who is responsible for this choice.

I also have no idea why do you think that iPhone have terrible battery life. My iPhone XS lasts two days of usage with music, web-browsing, texting on iMessage and using social networks like Twitter or Reddit.
